"Make a Difference" Week 2020

Each summer, we spend a week making a difference in our community through special service projects and finding ways to bless others. All ages, from kids to seniors, participate in our morning and evening work sessions. Most serve together as a family. From July 13-17, 2020, we had almost 100 individuals give their mornings and/or evenings to be the church in our community.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MAD WEEK

  • 24 full shopping carts of food for Simsbury Food Closet
  • 100 sandwiches made for the homeless in Hartford
  • 25+ yards of mulch spread at 10 homes around Simsbury
  • Dozens of cards made for senior citizens

How We Served

Flaming Farm

Pitching In on the Farm

Flamig Farm is a Simsbury throwback treasure -- we spent evenings completing a few projects that had been "in the works" to keep the farm looking great and operating efficiently! One big project included building a shed for the farm.

Restocking the Food Closet

We worked with Fitzgerald's Foods and collected 24 shopping carts full of non-perishable food and household items for the Simsbury Food Closet. The little ones enjoyed interacting with customers and filling the carts.

Creating Cards for Seniors

Our seniors and shut-ins need extra love and encouragement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our families took some time out of their mornings to write and decorate special notes to deliver to local nursing homes.

Feeding the Homeless in Hartford

During the mornings, we made sandwiches and put together bagged lunches for the homeless in our region. We then transported those meals downtown.

We partnered with Church Army and ImmaCare to provide these lunches for those who were hungry and in need of a good meal. Others were able to work more closely with ImmaCare, organizing  clothing for the needy.

Mulching Around Town

Our teams traveled around town weeding and mulching at more than 10 Simsbury homes. We spread 25+ yards of mulch and were able to connect with and pray for our elderly neighbors from a safe distance.

ABC House

Helping at ABC House

Individuals had the opportunity to partner with A Better Choice program in the heart of Simsbury. We cleaned out a shed, fixed bicycles, weeded the property, and cleaned dorms in anticipation of high school students moving in.
