Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a state licensed camp?

Yes. Epic Adventure is licensed by the Office of Early Childhood Education in the state of Connecticut. As the operator of a licensed youth camp, we are responsible to be in compliance with all related statutes and regulations. Each year, we apply to the state for licensure which then approves our directors, alternate directors, and medical staff. We also establish policies and procedures that are reviewed and approved by the OEC. The state runs background checks on all staff, makes in-person inspections, and requires reporting on camp practice.

How are teams arranged and can my child be with a friend?

Campers will be assigned to a team with counselors and supervised at all times. Requests will be made in the final prep packet (due in May) to be paired with friends. We will do our best to accommodate friend requests and ensure kids enjoy camp together.

What does a day at camp look like for my child?

What You Can Expect:

  • All campers will be assigned to a team, consisting of no more than 12 campers and at least 2 counselors.
  • Teams will complete daily activities together.
  • Days are carefully planned out with supervised activities that range from team challenges, crafts, games, team talks, and day trips off-site.
  • Safety and public health guidelines foundational to state-licensed camps will be followed.

Typical Daily Schedule:

  • 8:45a - Drop-off
  • 9:00a - Opener and Hype Time
  • 9:35a - Team Match-up #1
  • "Day Trips" leave at 10 a.m. (Tuesday and Thursday)

How does the registration, releases, prep packet, and payments work?

Registration will close when the camps reach 96 students for each, so we encourage interested families to register early. A non-refundable deposit of $70 reserves your camper's place. The remaining balance must be received by June 1, 2024. If the remaining balance is not received by June 1, 2024, your space may be forfeited. A "Final Prep Packet" including final payment, camp schedule, a packing list, emergency contacts, camp safety and release forms, etc., will be sent to you at the beginning of May.

What is the leadership and staff structure?

All of our Camp Directors and Assistant Directors will go through the state licensing process and be certified by the CT Office of Early Childhood education to direct the camp. In addition, a licensed director of First Aid, alongside adult interns, high school counselors (16+), and an executive staff director will make up the camp leadership team. A counselor-to-student ratio of 1-to-6 will be followed. All personnel will undergo a background check, reference check, interview, and be trained to supervise kids in various camp scenarios. Adventure activities (for Grades 5-8) related to rock climbing, zip lining, cliff jumping, high ropes, etc., will occur under the supervision of companies and officials who are licensed for such elements. (ie. The Adventure Park at Storrs; Brownstone Park.) A full description of activities and waver for camper participation will be submitted as part of the final prep packet.

What are the drop-off and pick-up plans?

Camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids are dropped off between 8:45-9 a.m. and picked up between 4-4:15 p.m. Drop-off and pick-up policies and procedures will be explained in the final prep packet.

What is the plan for lunches, snacks, and fluids?

Campers are responsible to bring a...

  • morning snack
  • lunch
  • water bottle. (a water refill station will be available at all times)

High energy snacks will be provided each day (ie. snow cones) to boost energy for the afternoon and the "Big Theme Day" activity. Allergies will be reported on health forms and alternate snacks will be provided.

Does my child need to be "adventurous" to attend?

Activities will range from fun games, water activities, cool crafts, hiking, swimming, relaxing -- and while the camps will offer various thrill-seeking activities for the brave-at-heart (age appropriate), we're confident there are activities that will appeal to all children.

Is financial assistance or payment plans available?

What's the transportation and off-site supervision plan?
