Join us at MAD Week: July 25-30

Valley Simsbury and Valley Avon are joining forces to serve our neighbors throughout central Connecticut during "Make a Difference" Week. Adults, teens, kids -- everyone can make a difference! And with several different kinds of projects, there's one that's just right for you ... and your friends. 

MAD Week happens each day, Monday-Saturday, July 25-30. All Valley Simsbury MAD Week events (and some Avon events) require advance sign-up. Use the link below to reserve your sport for any of the Simsbury opportunities. If you have a question about "MAD Week," please email us at

Valley Simsbury will have opportunities to serve each morning and evening. If you'd like to participate, please click below to go to the special Simsbury sign-up form (one form for all events). Also please note that each evening session will begin with a time of prayer and encouragement -- check the details carefully so you'll know when and where to start!

Food Drive with Fitzgerald's

Once again, Valley Simsbury is partnering with Fitzgerald's Foods to stock up the town of Simsbury's food pantry. On Monday-Thursday, each morning and afternoon, we'll host a collection area right outside the story. On Friday, we'll load up the van to take the groceries to the Food Pantry.

Neighbor Yard Work

Weeding and yard work around the Owens Murphy Apartments, which are run by the Housing Authority.

Valley Avon "MAD Week" Opportunities

"Music to Make a Difference" Concert (all)

About This Opportunity

Hosted by Valley Care and Valley's Friendship Community, this free indoor concert will honor people with diverse abilities in our church and communities. The concert is open to everyone!  The Christian worship band Muddy Boots will be leading us in a great night of live music.

  • The concert is Monday, July 25, at 6:30 p.m.
  • We'll gather in "The Venue" at Valley Community Baptist Church (590 W. Avon Road, Avon). Park in the main parking lot; follow the signs to The Venue when you enter the church.
  • The concert is free and family-friendly. No RSVP is required


Blessing Bags (kids and families)

About This Opportunity

We'll be packing hundreds of "Blessing Bags" specifically with items to assist the homeless and needy get through a hot summer here in Connecticut. We're partnering with several relief agencies in Hartford and Litchfield Counties, including police departments. The bags will include items such as water, sunscreen, socks, toiletries, a postcard of spiritual encouragement, and much more.

  • While this is a Valley Kids service project, all are welcome to help!
  • There's no need to bring additional items for the bags.
  • No RSVP is required -- just show up for one (or both) of the sessions.


MAD Camp (students entering grades 6-8)

About This Opportunity

Students will serve our community each day, learn how to grow in their faith, and have fun with peers. Each day, students will meet at Valley Avon and head out to serve in various locations. Lunch at Valley will be provided, followed by training in our “BLESS” strategy, which helps equip people to share the grace and mercy of God. Students will learn how to pray, actively listen to others, make conversation over a meal, serve intentionally, and share the Gospel through “Creation to Conclusion”. We will also some fun surprise activites throughout the week!

Camp Noah (students entering grades 9-12, and adult volunteers)

About This Opportunity

High school students will make a difference all week at Hartford City Mission's "Camp Noah" event for kids. This weeklong serving opportunity will be a "hands-on" experience in the heart of Hartford with one of our longtime outreach partners.

Adult Volunteer Help Needed

There are two ways adults can "Make a Difference" with this opportunity!

Volunteers: We are looking for about six adult volunteers each day to assist with lunch at Camp Noah. You can sign up for a single day or the entire week. Volunteers would arrive at 11:45 a.m. at the House of Restoration Church (1665 Main St., Hartford)

Snack Providers:  Would you be willing to help our efforts at Camp Noah by filling a bag with snacks and fruit cups? Pick up a "MAD Week" bag the weekend of July 9/10, and return it to the church by July 17. No sign-up needed, just grab a bag July 9/10 and bring it back the following week!

BLESS Local Teachers (all)

About This Opportunity

We're preparing Appreciation Baskets to say "thank you" to the teachers at Thompson Brook School! The baskets will contain a range of items; we'll provide the essentials, then please bring one item that will make YOUR basket a little different than the others! We'll spend a morning packing and preparing the baskets, and later ensure they get to the teachers at the school.

FoodCare Drive (all)

About This Opportunity

Once again, Valley will hold a food drive to benefit Gifts of Love, a longtime outreach partner that provides the neediest in our communities with food and other grocery items. It's a simple process: Just pick up a blue "Food Care" bag at the church starting July 16/17, and bring it back to the church by July 31. The list of items requested by Gifts of Love will be available when you pick up the bag.

  • The blue Food Care bags and item lists will be available beginning July 16/17. You don't have to use a blue bag to participate.
  • Pick-up and drop-off of bags will be in the Welcome Area at the church.
